These are some of the communities where children have come to school in Glendale over the years.  Today many of the places no longer exist but most of them did at one time or the other. When I was a youngster in school the buses ran from as far away as Starveout to Glendale to provide children an education.  Of course many of these locations had there own one-room schoolhouses.  For example the community of West Fork (the Post Office was called Dothan) had school for the children in the Cow Creek Canyon community.  In fact that was the first place that Mrs. Elma (Johnson) Archambeau taught school.  After beginning at West Fork she transferred to Glendale where she taught for many years.  The West Fork School closed due to low enrollment (2) on 25 April 1918.

Some of the places along the railroad only existed with houses and structures until the railroad was finished but the name remained for the siding that exists there.  Other places are old mines or ghost towns from the period when gold was king.

We hope this map will bring back memories of places in our area that you've visited in the past or perhaps spark your interest to go back and see what remains today.  In the future we'll try to have some early photo keyed to some of these places so you can see what they were like in times gone by.
